RIDIN’ THE ANGEL TRAIL
Old Cowboy and his pony, sittin’ beside the trail
By a campfire, drinkin’ a cup of coffee
Day dreamin’ of yesterday, knowin’ that his ship was about to sail
Cattle drives and gun fights, he was about to be free
Dry as Hell, and no rain clouds in sight
The grass was dead, and the cattle needed to be fed
He was getting’ old, knew he had to fight
But he knew, somehow God was makin’ his bed
Lookin’ back, thought it was all fun and play, yesterday
His old pony was getting restless, had a pain in his chest
But he thought that he had not finished the day
Gotta get up and ride again, before the sun sets in the west
The pain hit him and he hit the ground on the trail
His hat turned into a halo and his spurs into wings
And the angels took him up the angel trail
To a good cowboy, that is what this life brings.
