THE OLD SHADE TREE CHURCH

It’s just an old shade tree, just about anywhere I go
Down in a valley, or on top of a hill
That’s the church where I go
Maybe when I’m down and need a refill

It’s not fancy, its roof has a lot of holes
But, then his light can shine through to all
To bless all the souls
Under that old shade tree church, when they come to call

The Good Lord knows I’m a cowboy, he don't care what I wear
He always tells me to come in and sit for a spell
He is there to hear my prayer
Or if for me, he has a story to tell

Sometimes his old shade tree church is full and green
Sometimes the leaves are all on the ground
But the old shade tree church is always the same, pure and clean
He always plants his seed on solid ground

So cowboy, if you’re out riding around, drop on by
At the shade tree church, the Good Lord is always there
You don't have to tell him, he will know why
Under the shade tree church, he will hear your prayer
