THE MEXICAN BORDER - EL PASO

They say that the border is always on the edge of something
And that is so true
Always on the edge, never know what it will bring
‘Cause you don't always have the next clue

El Paso yesterday, Pancho Villa and gun fights
Mexican senoritas, tequila, cowboys and barb wire
Mariachis and smoke-filled Honky Tonk nights
Dust storms, prickly pear, tumbleweeds and a gun for hire

Cowboys on a cattle drive were always on move to somewhere
At night, around a campfire, boilin’ up a pot of cowboy coffee
Praying to stay alive another day was their prayer
Chasing wild women, ridin’ a bronc, and staying free

Now, the edge and the border is still here today
But they have driven all the real cowboys away from El Paso
The drug smugglers and cocaine cowboys have their way
Corruption and buying a Judge off, that is today’s El Paso

A haven for witches and whores, this is the edge
And not a cowboy's campfire, it’s a witch's bonfire
And cowboys are no longer welcome on the edge
In El Paso, it burns bright, the witch's bonfire

A Cowboy of the past wanted green grass for his cattle
Green grass now is what the witch's crew smokes at night
And that is what makes them rattle
Who will win, campfire or a bonfire in the last night

And all of the old cowboy ghosts cry at night
When under a full moon the coyote will howl
And make a good cowboy fight
Like when a good watch dog will growl

The Mexican border, the edge is very near
Who will win and who will fall
Yesterday and today are now, tomorrow is very near
Let's just pray that God will hear our call
